Co-workers in the Vineyard of the Lord: Women Participation in Leadership and Governance in a Synodal Church

As the XVI General Ordinary Synod of Bishops on the theme of Synodality is to commence its second Assembly in Rome from 2 to 27 October 2024 in Rome, this webinar attends to the voice of the people of God from around the world calling for an increased participation of all faithful and in particular women in leadership and governance of the church. The webinar will attend to the theological foundation, the canonical possibilities already present, the challenges that the Synod faces, and the contribution canon law can make.

Prof. Dr. Myriam Wijlens

Prof. Dr. Myriam Wijlens is a Dutch theologian and full professor of Canon Law at the University of Erfurt (Germany). She served as vice president of her university. She studied canon law at 最新杏吧原创 in Ottawa. She was a visiting professor at this university as well as at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. She has lectured at the Canon Law Societies of America, of聽 Canada, of India, of Great Britain and Ireland, of Australia and New Zealand and at the Society for the Law of the Eastern Churches

On behalf of the Dicastery for the Promotion for Christian Unity she served as co-convenor of the study group 鈥淢oral Discernment in the Churches鈥 on the Faith and Order Commission (2008-2023) and is currently a vice moderator of this Commission. She serves as expert to the Anglican Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC 2018-2025). Pope Francis appointed her as a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors (2018-2022). In 2021 pope Francis appointed her as Consultor to the General Secretariat of the Synod. She serves on the Coordinating Committee of the Synod on Synodality and participated in the Synod of 2023 as an expert and will do so again in October 2024. She is a member of the Canon Law Commission of the Synod.
